Job Description

Kaleris is hiring Associate Software Engineers to join its Product Engineering team in Chennai. This is an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates and early-career software developers who want to build innovative enterprise applications in the logistics and supply chain domain. In this role, you will work alongside experienced software engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable enterprise applications while contributing to products used by leading industrial organizations across the world. The position offers hands-on experience with modern backend technologies, cloud concepts, AI-assisted development, and enterprise software engineering practices.

As an Associate Software Engineer, you will participate in the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirement analysis, solution design, coding, unit testing, debugging, deployment support, and production maintenance. You will primarily work with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, relational databases, version control systems, and software testing frameworks to build secure, reliable, and high-performance applications. The role also introduces engineers to AI-assisted software development using coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, enabling faster code generation, documentation, debugging, and automated test creation while following responsible AI usage practices and maintaining engineering quality standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Analyze business requirements and assist in designing scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions that meet customer and product expectations.
  2. Develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and modern software development frameworks.
  3. Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code while following coding standards, secure development practices, and software engineering guidelines.
  4. Support backend development activities, including business logic implementation, data access components, API integrations, and application configuration changes.
  5. Collaborate with product managers, quality assurance engineers, senior developers, and project teams to deliver reliable software features within Agile development cycles.
  6. Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to generate code, create documentation, develop unit tests, troubleshoot issues, and improve engineering productivity while validating every output.
  7. Review AI-generated code to ensure correctness, maintainability, security, compliance, and alignment with organizational coding standards.
  8. Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, daily stand-up meetings, retrospectives, technical discussions, and feature demonstrations.
  9. Troubleshoot software defects, analyze production issues, debug application problems, and support issue resolution using logs, debugging tools, and structured problem-solving techniques.
  10. Prepare technical documentation including implementation notes, solution designs, unit test cases, deployment information, and support documentation.
  11. Continuously enhance technical knowledge in Java, Spring Boot, cloud technologies, messaging systems, databases, secure coding, and AI engineering best practices.
  12. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying automation opportunities, optimizing development workflows, and adopting emerging software engineering technologies.

Requirements & Eligibility

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, MCA, M.Sc. (IT), or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  2. Fresh graduates or candidates with up to two years of software development experience, including internships, academic projects, personal projects, or bootcamp experience, are eligible to apply.
  3. Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and application architecture.
  4. Hands-on knowledge of Java programming along with exposure to Spring Framework, Spring Boot, RESTful web services, and backend application development.
  5. Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, Git version control, unit testing, integration testing, and debugging practices.
  6. Basic experience with JUnit or similar testing frameworks for writing and executing automated unit tests.
  7. Knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and exposure to NoSQL databases such as Cassandra will be considered an added advantage.
  8. Familiarity with messaging technologies like Kafka or JMS, cloud concepts, secure coding practices, and scalable software development is desirable.
  9. Practical understanding of AI coding assistants, prompt engineering, AI-generated code validation, and responsible AI usage in software development.
  10. Excellent analytical thinking, communication skills, teamwork, adaptability, and a strong willingness to learn new technologies and contribute effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.

Expected Salary

The expected salary for the Associate Software Engineer role at Kaleris generally ranges between ₹6 LPA and ₹10 LPA, depending on the candidate's educational background, technical expertise, programming skills, internships, project experience, and interview performance. Candidates with strong Java, Spring Boot, REST API, SQL, and AI-assisted development knowledge may receive compensation toward the higher end of the salary range.
