Alcon is hiring enthusiastic and motivated graduates for the role of Apprentice Software Engineer as part of its 12-month apprenticeship program in Bangalore. Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform functional, integration, system-level, and performance testing for medical instruments and associated software applications.
- Execute test cases, test plans, and validation protocols to ensure software quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in verification and validation (V&V) activities for medical devices and healthcare technology systems.
- Identify, document, track, and report software defects using defect management and issue-tracking tools.
- Support automation testing activities and contribute to automating repetitive test scenarios where applicable.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, quality teams, and product specialists to support testing and validation activities.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and medical device testing procedures such as ISO and FDA-related practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of test results, observations, deviations, and validation reports in structured formats.
- Troubleshoot issues identified during testing and assist in root cause analysis and defect resolution processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing testing methodologies, quality standards, and validation workflows.
- Gain practical exposure to lab setups, instrumentation systems, testing tools, and regulated software development environments.
- Participate in mentorship sessions, technical learning programs, and periodic performance evaluations throughout the apprenticeship program.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelorβs degree (B.E / B.Tech) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science, or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
- Strong academic background with interest in software testing, validation engineering, or healthcare technology systems.
- Basic understanding of software testing concepts including manual testing, test case execution, defect tracking, and quality assurance processes.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or Java will be considered an added advantage.
- Good analytical thinking and attention to detail, especially for testing, troubleshooting, and validation-related activities.
- Basic understanding of electronics fundamentals, embedded systems, or instrumentation concepts is beneficial for medical device testing roles.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills for maintaining testing records and collaborating with engineering teams.
- Ability to work effectively in team-oriented environments while following quality standards and regulated development processes.
- Willingness to learn medical device lifecycle concepts, compliance procedures, and healthcare industry regulations.
- Familiarity with automation testing frameworks, scripting, or defect management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps will be advantageous.
- Awareness of quality and regulatory standards including ISO 13485, FDA compliance basics, and validation documentation practices is preferred.
- Strong learning mindset, adaptability, and commitment to professional growth within fast-paced engineering environments.
