Akamai – Software Development Engineer in Test

Job Description

Akamai is hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to strengthen its Edge Servers QA team, a group responsible for validating products that power some of the world’s largest digital and OTT events. This role sits at the intersection of quality engineering, automation, and large-scale distributed systems, offering exposure to globally distributed infrastructure that serves billions of users every day.

As an SDET, you will design and implement system-level automated tests that replicate real-world traffic patterns and delivery scenarios. You’ll work closely with developers and cross-functional QA teams to validate performance, reliability, and scalability across Akamai’s Edge Technology Platform. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring world-class delivery performance, availability, and resilience of internet-scale systems.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy Python-based automation, system integration testing, and solving complex problems in distributed environments. With Akamai’s FlexBase program, you’ll also enjoy long-term flexibility to work remotely while collaborating with global teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Contribute to system-level test plans to ensure comprehensive automation and coverage.

• Design, develop, and deploy automated system tests that simulate real-world delivery scenarios.

• Build and enhance test automation infrastructure for large-scale distributed systems.

• Review product and system design requirements to validate test strategies and accuracy.

• Improve testing methodologies and procedures to increase automation efficiency and reliability.

• Collaborate closely with developers and QA teams to qualify features end-to-end.

• Analyze system behavior, performance, and failures to identify quality risks early.

• Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of edge delivery products.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

• Strong hands-on experience in test automation using Python.

• Solid understanding or interest in distributed systems and large-scale platforms.

• Exposure to internet technologies such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and networking fundamentals.

• Experience with system integration testing and real-world scenario validation.

• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and globally distributed teams.

• Passion for quality engineering and building reliable, high-performance systems.
