Job Description
Ubisoft is hiring an R&D Engineer (C++) for its Pune team to work on advanced automation solutions for game testing and quality engineering. This position is designed for software engineers who have strong C++ programming skills, a good understanding of C#, and an interest in building reliable automation frameworks, tools, and applications for large-scale game development projects. The engineer will contribute to the design and development of automation modules that help game development and quality control teams reduce repetitive manual testing efforts while improving testing efficiency and consistency. Working closely with the Automation Team Lead, development managers, QC leads, and other stakeholders, the engineer will understand project requirements, identify automation opportunities, develop solutions, investigate technical issues, and contribute to sustainable engineering practices.
The role combines software development, test automation, debugging, system analysis, and research-oriented engineering within a gaming environment. Engineers will develop a strong understanding of the DTest framework and work toward integrating game functionality with automated testing systems. Responsibilities include evaluating requirements and acceptance criteria, developing software solutions, investigating problem areas, analyzing system flows, debugging existing code, and monitoring the technical performance of internal systems. The position also involves following the Software Development Life Cycle adopted by the project and producing clear technical documentation such as flowcharts, diagrams, layouts, code comments, and solution documentation. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and TeamCity, along with source-code management systems, is important for maintaining efficient development and automation workflows.
As an R&D Engineer at Ubisoft, you will work in an environment where innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning are essential. The position provides an opportunity to solve challenging engineering problems associated with game testing while contributing to tools that can be reused across projects and help development teams deliver high-quality gaming experiences. Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities are particularly valuable because the role requires engineers to investigate complex code and system behavior and identify reliable solutions. The opportunity is well suited to software engineers who enjoy working with C++, automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and game technology and who want to build a career at the intersection of software engineering, quality engineering, research and development, and interactive entertainment technology.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop robust game-testing automation solutions using C++ and related technologies, creating reusable modules and tools that reduce manual testing effort and improve quality engineering efficiency.
- Understand assigned requirements and acceptance criteria by working with development managers, automation leads, QC teams, and stakeholders to clarify expected functionality and identify appropriate technical solutions.
- Work with the DTest framework to develop deeper expertise in automated testing and strengthen game-to-DTest integration for different projects and testing requirements.
- Design and implement software solutions by analyzing system requirements, understanding information flows, studying existing processes, and selecting practical approaches to address technical challenges.
- Assist development managers and technical leads with software design, coding, implementation, debugging, and other engineering activities required to deliver automation projects successfully.
- Investigate and troubleshoot software problems by analyzing existing code, reproducing issues, identifying root causes, implementing fixes, and validating that the resulting solutions work as expected.
- Develop automation modules for multiple projects while maintaining code quality, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and compatibility with project-specific requirements.
- Follow established Software Development and Testing Life Cycle practices throughout planning, development, testing, debugging, documentation, deployment, and maintenance activities.
- Monitor the technical performance of internal systems and investigate performance or reliability issues that could affect automation frameworks, applications, or testing workflows.
- Use CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins or TeamCity to support automated development and testing pipelines and improve the consistency and efficiency of software delivery.
- Maintain clear technical documentation through code comments, diagrams, flowcharts, layouts, technical notes, and solution documentation so that engineering teams can understand and maintain developed systems.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while taking ownership of assigned work, accepting feedback, adapting to changing requirements, and delivering tasks within agreed timelines.
Requirements & Eligibility

- C# Knowledge: A good understanding of C# is required to work effectively with the technologies and applications involved in the automation environment and to contribute to different project requirements.
- Software Development Lifecycle: Candidates should understand the Software Development Life Cycle and Software Testing Life Cycle, including development, testing, debugging, maintenance, documentation, and delivery practices.
- Test Automation: Experience or strong interest in developing test automation frameworks, automation modules, testing tools, or software quality solutions is highly relevant to the position.
- CI/CD Experience: Candidates should have practical knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery using tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity, or similar platforms, with an understanding of automated build and testing workflows.
- Version Control: Familiarity with source-code control and versioning systems is essential for managing code, collaborating with engineering teams, reviewing changes, and maintaining project history.
- Debugging & Troubleshooting: Strong debugging skills are important, including the ability to read unfamiliar code, reproduce problems, identify root causes, analyze system behavior, and implement effective technical fixes.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Candidates should demonstrate structured analytical thinking and the ability to break complex technical problems into smaller components before developing practical and sustainable solutions.
- Communication & Teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication skills are expected, along with the ability to collaborate with developers, QC leads, managers, automation engineers, and other project stakeholders.
- Adaptability & Learning Mindset: The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, receptive to feedback, willing to organize work independently, and enthusiastic about learning new technologies and contributing innovative ideas.
Expected Salary
For an R&D Engineer (C++) position in Pune within the gaming and software engineering industry, a realistic market salary range is approximately ₹7 lakh to ₹14 lakh per annum, depending on experience, C++ proficiency, automation expertise, CI/CD knowledge, and overall technical capability.
