Job Description

Northern Trust is hiring an Analyst in Pune for an entry-level opportunity within its global financial services and operations environment. This role is suitable for graduates or candidates with up to six months of relevant experience who want to begin their careers in banking operations, financial services, transaction processing, and business operations. Northern Trust is a global organization with expertise across wealth management, asset servicing, asset management, and banking services, supporting sophisticated clients through technology and service excellence. As an Analyst, the selected candidate will be responsible for processing transactions accurately and within established guidelines, completing daily deliverables, maintaining operational standards, and supporting the smooth execution of assigned processes. The position offers valuable exposure to professional financial operations and structured business workflows.

The Northern Trust Analyst will work on day-to-day operational activities that require accuracy, consistency, analytical thinking, and attention to detail. Responsibilities include meeting service-level expectations, preparing and submitting daily checklists, creating functional reports, resolving routine issues, and escalating complex problems to supervisors or subject matter experts when necessary. Analysts will monitor trends across daily deliverables and key performance indicators and collaborate with supervisors to improve process knowledge and procedures. The role requires candidates to work effectively both independently and as part of a team while gradually becoming proficient across different areas of their assigned responsibilities. Knowledge of MS Excel is important for preparing reports, organizing operational information, and supporting data-driven process activities.

This position is also an opportunity to develop a strong understanding of financial operations, risk management, regulatory processes, and service delivery standards. Analysts will follow established procedures for reporting incidents, regulatory breaches, and operational risks and will be expected to identify and resolve problems within defined guidelines. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members and escalating important issues. Northern Trust's Pune office supports operations across asset servicing and wealth management while also delivering technology solutions for global business operations. For graduates seeking an entry-level career in banking operations, financial services, transaction processing, or business process management, this Analyst position can provide a strong foundation for professional development and future opportunities within a global financial institution.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Process Financial Transactions: Process assigned transactions accurately and within established operating guidelines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and meeting expected service standards.
  2. Complete Daily Deliverables: Ensure all assigned daily activities are completed within defined timelines and service-level expectations while maintaining consistency and accuracy across operational processes.
  3. Maintain Daily Checklists: Prepare, review, and submit required daily checklists and operational records to the appropriate supervisors or next-level reviewers according to established procedures.
  4. Resolve Operational Issues: Identify routine process issues and work toward appropriate solutions within defined guidelines while escalating complex or unusual problems to supervisors and subject matter experts.
  5. Monitor SLA & KRA Trends: Track trends in daily deliverables, service-level agreements, and key result areas and work with supervisors to identify opportunities for process and knowledge improvements.
  6. Prepare Business Reports: Create and execute formal reports and function-specific reports using available data and reporting processes to support operational monitoring and management requirements.
  7. Support Risk Reporting: Follow established procedures for reporting incidents, regulatory breaches, operational risks, and other process-related exceptions with accuracy and appropriate urgency.
  8. Identify Process Problems: Analyze operational activities to identify recurring errors, inefficiencies, or potential problems and support corrective actions within the scope of the assigned role.
  9. Collaborate With Teams: Work effectively as part of a team while also managing assigned responsibilities independently and communicating relevant updates or concerns to colleagues and supervisors.
  10. Develop Functional Expertise: Continuously build knowledge across different areas of the role and work toward becoming proficient in the processes, systems, procedures, and operational requirements associated with the position.
  11. Use MS Excel: Apply working knowledge of Microsoft Excel to organize information, prepare reports, analyze operational data, and support routine business and transaction-processing activities.
  12. Escalate Complex Issues: Use sound judgment to determine when an issue can be handled independently and when it requires escalation to experienced supervisors or subject matter experts for further resolution.

Requirements & Eligibility

  1. Educational Qualification: Candidates should have a college or university degree in a relevant discipline. The position is suitable for recent graduates looking to enter the financial services and operations industry.
  2. Experience: Applicants can be fresh graduates or candidates with 0–6 months of relevant work experience, making this an appropriate entry-level opportunity.
  3. Communication Skills: Good oral and written communication skills are required to interact effectively with team members, communicate process updates, document issues, and escalate operational concerns.
  4. Analytical Thinking: Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, allowing them to investigate process issues, identify potential causes, and work toward practical solutions.
  5. MS Excel Knowledge: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is expected. Candidates should be comfortable organizing data, preparing basic reports, and using spreadsheets for operational activities.
  6. Financial Services Awareness: Basic functional or industry knowledge is preferred. Familiarity with banking, financial services, asset servicing, transaction processing, or business operations can be an advantage.
  7. Attention to Detail: Candidates must demonstrate accuracy and careful attention to detail because transaction processing and financial operations require reliable data handling and adherence to established procedures.
  8. Process Discipline: The ability to consistently follow documented processes, checklists, service-level requirements, regulatory procedures, and operational risk guidelines is important for maintaining quality and compliance.
  9. Teamwork & Independence: Candidates should be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues while also taking ownership of assigned tasks and completing responsibilities independently when appropriate.
  10. Learning & Adaptability: Freshers should demonstrate willingness to learn new processes, systems, financial operations concepts, reporting procedures, and organizational practices while developing proficiency across multiple areas of the job.
