Job Description

The SW Test Engineer / Specialist role at Amdocs is a critical position responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of complex enterprise systems, particularly within mainframe and large-scale transactional environments. In this role, you will be involved in end-to-end testing activities, including test planning, test design, execution, automation, and defect management, while meeting committed scope, schedule, and quality goals. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure that testing outcomes align with business and technical expectations.

As part of Amdocs’ global delivery organization, you will contribute to testing initiatives that support digital transformation, cloud migration, and next-generation communication platforms. The role demands strong hands-on expertise in mainframe technologies and batch processing, along with the ability to analyze system behavior, identify root causes of failures, and recommend solutions for optimization and stability. Your work will directly support mission-critical systems used by global service providers.

Beyond execution, this role emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement. You will act as a technical interface between teams, guide junior testers, promote test efficiency, and ensure that all testing artifacts meet the highest quality and compliance standards. Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and execute test activities across multiple testing phases, including system and batch testing.

• Design and implement test automation procedures and scripts on mainframe platforms.

• Prioritize testing activities to ensure complete coverage of functional and non-functional scenarios.

• Analyze system behavior, batch results, and failures to recommend issue resolution and optimization strategies.

• Define execution-level test plans, scope, resources, and test solutions aligned with customer requirements.

• Prepare and manage mainframe test data, including batch cycle data feeds.

• Independently design high-quality test cases and execute them to meet delivery commitments.

• Resolve batch abends and system errors through detailed analysis and troubleshooting.

• Maintain strong professional relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.

• Act as a technical mentor for new team members and promote reuse of testing tools and best practices.

• Ensure test documentation, testware, and deliverables meet internal standards and client expectations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 2 to 8 years of experience in software testing with strong mainframe exposure.

• Mandatory hands-on experience with JCL, COBOL, VSAM, and CICS.

• Hands-on experience with DB2, IMS, or IDMS databases.

• Experience with batch schedulers such as ESP or CA7.

• Proven expertise in resolving batch abends and system errors.

• Hands-on experience with Connect:Direct (C:D) and MQ Series.

• Strong understanding of System Testing Life Cycle (STLC).

• Ability to independently write test designs and execute test cases.

• Experience with test and defect management tools.

• Exposure to automation tools such as QTP or REXX on mainframe platforms is preferred.

• Familiarity with at least one cloud platform such as AWS or Azure is an added advantage.

• Strong stakeholder collaboration and communication skills.
