Job Description:
Microsoft is hiring a highly skilled Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to join its Azure Storage team, one of the most advanced cloud storage platforms in the world. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud storage solutions that power millions of users globally. As part of a rapidly growing cloud ecosystem, you will contribute to designing and validating systems that handle exabyte-scale data and are evolving toward zettabyte capacity. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge distributed systems while ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance in a global cloud environment.
In this role, you will take ownership of quality engineering by designing robust test strategies, automation frameworks, and performance validation systems. You will collaborate closely with software developers, product managers, and infrastructure teams to ensure that Azure Storage services meet the highest quality standards. The position requires strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement. By identifying system bottlenecks, improving test coverage, and enhancing automation, you will directly influence the performance and scalability of Microsoft’s cloud offerings.
Working at Microsoft also means being part of a culture driven by innovation, collaboration, and a growth mindset. You will gain exposure to large-scale distributed architectures, modern testing methodologies, and advanced cloud technologies. This role not only strengthens your technical expertise in automation testing and cloud computing but also accelerates your career growth by allowing you to work with globally distributed teams on impactful projects that shape the future of cloud storage and digital transformation.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and product managers, to understand feature requirements and translate them into effective test strategies and validation plans.
- Design and develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scenarios to ensure complete coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
- Build, enhance, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing across distributed systems.
- Execute performance, load, scalability, and stress tests to validate system behavior under varying workloads and ensure optimal performance.
- Analyze system performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and optimize resource utilization across compute, storage, and networking layers.
- Develop custom tools, scripts, and test harnesses to improve testing efficiency, streamline execution, and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Identify, log, track, and troubleshoot software defects, performing detailed root-cause analysis and working closely with engineering teams for resolution.
- Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring system health, responding to incidents, and ensuring quick recovery from outages or service degradation.
- Continuously improve test strategies by adopting modern quality engineering practices, automation tools, and CI/CD integration.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of data security, privacy, and compliance within testing processes and validation frameworks.
Requirements & Eligibility:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, with a strong foundation in software engineering principles and practices.
- At least 1+ years of hands-on experience in software development or testing with proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional testing, regression testing, integration testing, and performance testing.
- Experience in designing and implementing automation frameworks using modern testing tools and scripting techniques.
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, distributed systems, and microservices architecture, preferably with exposure to Azure or similar environments.
- Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex systems, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.
- Familiarity with performance testing tools and techniques to measure system scalability, reliability, and latency under different workloads.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and version control systems to support continuous testing and deployment processes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with global teams and contribute to a high-performance engineering culture.
- Preferred candidates may have additional experience, advanced degrees, or certifications in software testing, cloud computing, or quality engineering.
Expected Salary:
The expected salary for a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) at Microsoft in India typically ranges between ₹10 LPA to ₹22 LPA for candidates with 1–3 years of experience. Compensation may vary based on technical expertise, location, and overall experience level. In addition to base salary, Microsoft offers performance bonuses, stock options, and comprehensive employee benefits, making it a highly competitive package in the cloud engineering and software testing domain.
