Job Description
Baker Hughes is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Software Engineer to join its Digital Technology and Product Engineering team in Mumbai. This opportunity is designed for early-career software professionals who want to work on modern business applications while gaining practical experience across frontend development, backend engineering, databases, testing, and software delivery. The selected candidate will contribute to web applications built using technologies such as Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Express.js, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and DBR technologies. You will work alongside experienced developers, QA engineers, UX professionals, and product stakeholders to deliver reliable software solutions that support business-critical operations. The position also provides exposure to Agile development practices, source-code management, application troubleshooting, code reviews, and continuous improvement activities.
In this role, you will participate throughout the software development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and developing features to testing, debugging, deployment, and ongoing application maintenance. Your day-to-day work may involve creating responsive Angular interfaces, developing RESTful backend services with Node.js, writing and optimizing SQL queries, maintaining PostgreSQL database objects, and supporting applications built on the DBR technology stack. You will also investigate defects, perform root-cause analysis, improve application reliability, and follow established coding and documentation standards. Collaboration is an important part of the position, with regular interaction across Product Owners, UX Designers, QA teams, senior engineers, and other technology professionals. You will also gain practical exposure to Git, CI/CD processes, Agile ceremonies, and modern engineering practices.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain responsive and user-friendly web applications using Angular, following established frontend architecture and coding standards.
- Build, enhance, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Node.js and Express.js to support application functionality and business requirements.
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize PostgreSQL database objects, SQL queries, and stored procedures while focusing on application performance and data reliability.
- Contribute to software solutions developed using the DBR technology stack, supporting implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvements.
- Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, including feature development, unit testing, defect resolution, code reviews, documentation, and application maintenance.
- Work closely with Product Owners, UX Designers, QA Engineers, senior developers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver quality software solutions.
- Investigate application defects and production or development issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement appropriate fixes to improve system stability.
- Write clean, scalable, maintainable, and well-documented code while following software engineering standards, development guidelines, and version-control practices.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog discussions, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Support CI/CD and software deployment activities, working with development and DevOps teams to help move application changes through appropriate environments.
- Use Git and established branching practices to manage source code, collaborate with team members, review changes, and maintain a reliable development workflow.
- Continuously explore new technologies, development practices, automation opportunities, and process improvements that can enhance product quality and engineering efficiency.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- 0–2 years of software development experience. Internships, academic projects, personal projects, and relevant hands-on development experience may be considered.
- Practical understanding of Angular, preferably Angular version 12 or later, with the ability to develop and maintain modern web interfaces.
- Working knowledge of TypeScript and JavaScript, along with HTML5 and CSS3 for frontend application development.
- Understanding of Node.js and Express.js for developing backend services and REST-based applications.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL, including database development, query writing, database objects, stored procedures, and basic query optimization.
- Understanding of REST API development and integration, including how frontend applications communicate with backend services.
- Familiarity with Git version control and collaborative software development workflows.
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile development methodologies.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability, with an interest in investigating technical issues and identifying practical solutions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with developers, QA professionals, product teams, designers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies, applications, frameworks, and existing codebases.
Preferred Skills – Good to Have
- Working knowledge of Python for scripting, automation, or application development.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Understanding of Docker and containerization technologies.
- Exposure to automated testing frameworks and software quality practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployment workflows.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve development productivity while applying appropriate engineering judgment.
- Basic understanding of application performance, scalability, security, and maintainability principles.
