Job Description:

HSBC is seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to join its Financial Crime Data Platforms team, playing a critical role in strengthening data-driven decision-making across compliance and risk management functions. This role focuses on managing and analyzing large-scale datasets within advanced cloud environments such as Hadoop and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As part of a global banking institution, you will contribute to building intelligent data systems that support financial crime detection, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This position is ideal for professionals passionate about leveraging data analytics to solve complex business problems in the banking and financial services sector.

In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, investigators, and business stakeholders to design and deliver high-quality datasets. Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze large and complex datasets using SQL, Python, and cloud-based tools like Hadoop and GCP to extract meaningful insights that drive business and technical decisions.
  • Design and develop data models and datasets that support financial crime detection systems and enhance analytical capabilities across the organization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including data scientists, investigators, and business teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective data solutions.
  • Perform change impact assessments for new requirements, evaluating dependencies, feasibility, scope, and potential risks to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Ensure traceability of functional and non-functional requirements throughout the data lifecycle, from design to deployment and monitoring.
  • Review technical documentation and provide domain expertise to support the development of data-driven products and processes.
  • Participate in design discussions and governance forums, addressing technical challenges and ensuring alignment with organizational standards.
  • Maintain data quality, integrity, and security across platforms, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize data processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Mentor and guide team members by sharing best practices and contributing to the growth of the data analyst community within the organization.

Requirements & Eligibility:

  • Strong experience in data analysis using SQL and Python, with the ability to handle large-scale datasets in distributed environments.
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop and cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for data processing and analytics.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing concepts, and data lifecycle management in enterprise environments.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights that support business objectives and strategic decision-making.
  • Knowledge of financial services, compliance, or risk management domains is highly desirable, especially in financial crime analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex requirements and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies for delivering data-driven solutions.
  • Experience in managing data quality, governance, and security practices within large organizations.
