Job Description
The Apprentice โ Technology opportunity at Target in Bengaluru is designed for engineering students who want to gain practical exposure to software, technology operations, automation, and digital retail systems within a global organization. Targetโs technology teams operate behind the scenes to support a large retail and e-commerce ecosystem, using modern tools and engineering practices to deliver reliable, scalable, secure, and high-performing experiences for customers and team members. As a technology apprentice, candidates will work alongside experienced engineering professionals and gain exposure to how technology solutions are designed, evaluated, implemented, automated, and maintained. The program provides an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with real-world engineering challenges while learning about retail technology, e-commerce platforms, enterprise systems, and the technologies that help Target operate efficiently across online and physical stores.
During the apprenticeship, participants can contribute to a wide range of technical activities under appropriate guidance. These may include evaluating new technologies, supporting service lifecycle management, assisting with automation and implementation, debugging technical issues, and contributing to scalable and secure technology solutions. Apprentices will learn how engineering teams approach architecture, operational requirements, system capacity, repeatability, security, and total cost of ownership when developing technology services. The role also provides exposure to emerging tools and technologies, allowing students to strengthen their technical capabilities while working on practical assignments. Candidates can contribute ideas and potentially participate in projects involving new retail concepts, algorithms, and Targetโs technology intellectual property, making the apprenticeship relevant for students interested in software engineering, IT, data, automation, and digital transformation.
The program is also focused on professional development and collaboration. Apprentices will have opportunities to interact with global technology teams and learn from engineers and data scientists working across Targetโs technology organization. The experience can provide a hands-on overview of the retail and e-commerce landscape while helping participants understand how large-scale technology systems support business operations. Target encourages a learning-oriented culture in which students are expected to be curious, adaptable, dependable, and willing to experiment with new technologies. For engineering students specializing in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Circuit-related branches, this apprenticeship can provide a valuable starting point for developing practical engineering skills and understanding how technology contributes to a global retail business.
