Job Description:

The Software Engineer (Client Distribution) role at Postman is a highly impactful backend engineering position focused on building and scaling systems that power software delivery to millions of users worldwide. As part of the Client Distribution team, you will work on the infrastructure responsible for delivering updates to Postman’s applications, including desktop apps, web platforms, and command-line tools. This role is critical in ensuring seamless, fast, and reliable distribution of software to over 45 million developers globally.

In this role, you will design and develop backend services that manage artifact hosting, versioning, rollout strategies, and release orchestration. You will work with modern cloud technologies and CI/CD pipelines to optimize deployment processes and reduce time-to-market. The role also involves building observability systems and dashboards that provide insights into release performance and system reliability.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services responsible for distributing client applications and updates.
  • Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines to accelerate software release cycles and improve deployment efficiency.
  • Implement rollout strategies, including phased releases and rollback mechanisms for safe deployments.
  • Build and maintain observability systems to monitor release pipelines and system performance.
  • Migrate legacy systems to modern, scalable infrastructure to improve maintainability and reliability.
  • Create reusable tools, SDKs, and deployment utilities to enhance developer productivity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of distribution systems.
  • Manage artifact storage, versioning, and delivery across multiple platforms and environments.
  • Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for optimization and automation.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of backend services supporting millions of users.

Requirements & Eligibility:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in backend development, building production-grade APIs and services.
  • Strong experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript-based environments, with Node.js or TypeScript being a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, and CloudFront.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or similar automation platforms.
  • Understanding of CDN architecture and large-scale artifact distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex distributed systems.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
