Job Description:
The Application Engineer role at Bread Financial is a critical position focused on ensuring the stability, security, and performance of enterprise application environments. In this role, you will be responsible for managing operating system patching across Windows, UNIX, and Red Hat Linux environments while handling vulnerability data sourced from tools such as Qualys and Kenna. You will also contribute to middleware and application server maintenance, including WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, Java upgrades, and SSL certificate renewals. By coordinating across multiple teams and following structured SDLC and Agile practices, you ensure minimal disruption to business operations while maintaining high security and performance standards.
Beyond technical execution, the Application Engineer position emphasizes collaboration, communication, and ownership. You will actively participate in reporting, cleanup, and optimization of application servers while supporting application teams during maintenance activities. Roles & Responsibilities:

Plan, schedule, execute, and coordinate patching activities across multiple environments to ensure timely vulnerability remediation.

Perform operating system patching for Windows, UNIX, and Red Hat Linux servers following organizational standards.

Manage and analyze vulnerabilities identified through Qualys scan results and Kenna risk prioritization tools.

Handle middleware and platform upgrades, including WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, Java updates, and SSL certificate renewals.

Coordinate with infrastructure, application, and vendor teams to execute patching and resolve related issues.

Support application teams by addressing SSL issues, server cleanups, and configuration-related challenges.

Prepare and maintain reports on vulnerability status, Kenna findings, and remediation progress.

Assist in cleaning, optimizing, and maintaining application servers to improve stability and performance.

Provide on-call or extended-hours support when required to meet critical patching or upgrade timelines.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders, ensuring clear follow-ups, documentation, and task ownership.
Requirements & Eligibility:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

0 to 3 years of hands-on experience in application engineering, server maintenance, or related IT roles.

Practical exposure to patch management, vulnerability management, and system upgrade activities.

Working knowledge of Windows, UNIX, and Linux operating systems in enterprise environments.

Familiarity with middleware technologies such as WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, and Java-based platforms.

Experience working within Agile, Iterative, or Waterfall project methodologies and their best practices.
