Job Description

Paytm, operated by One97 Communications Ltd, is looking for a Credit Risk Analyst to join its dynamic fintech risk management team in Noida. As one of India’s leading digital payments and financial services companies, Paytm plays a crucial role in transforming the country’s financial ecosystem. The Credit Risk Analyst will work within the Credit Risk Product Team, which is responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies that ensure sustainable and responsible lending. This role focuses on analyzing credit data, evaluating borrower risk profiles, and supporting the development of scalable lending policies.

The Credit Risk Analyst will collaborate closely with data scientists, product managers, and credit policy teams to implement and optimize credit risk policies across Paytm’s lending products. These products include merchant loans and personal lending solutions designed for individuals and small businesses across India. By leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning models, and traditional credit assessment methods, the analyst will help improve underwriting processes and enhance decision-making frameworks that minimize risk while maximizing lending efficiency.

In addition to analyzing borrower data, the role also involves monitoring key risk indicators, evaluating policy performance, and identifying opportunities to strengthen risk management strategies. The Credit Risk Analyst will perform scenario testing, assess policy effectiveness, and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks governing financial services in India. By contributing to Paytm’s rapidly expanding digital lending ecosystem, this position provides a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of fintech innovation and help expand financial access to millions of individuals and businesses.


Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Analyze credit risk across multiple lending products including merchant loans and personal loans to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.

  2. Work closely with business teams to understand existing credit policies and ensure that they are accurately implemented within the company’s proprietary lending platform.

  3. Monitor and evaluate the performance of credit risk policies to ensure they remain effective in managing default risk and portfolio quality.

  4. Utilize data analytics techniques to evaluate borrower profiles using traditional credit metrics as well as alternative data sources.

  5. Conduct scenario analysis and testing to evaluate how credit policies perform under different economic and operational conditions.

  6. Track key risk indicators (KRIs) and prepare reports that provide insights to management regarding credit performance and portfolio health.

  7. Collaborate with data scientists and technology teams to enhance machine learning models used for credit risk evaluation and underwriting decisions.

  8. Ensure that all credit risk processes and policies comply with regulatory guidelines and internal risk management standards.

  9. Support product teams in integrating risk-based decision-making into digital lending workflows and customer onboarding processes.

  10. Continuously identify opportunities to improve underwriting models, risk policies, and credit decision frameworks.


Requirements & Eligibility

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline from reputed institutions such as NIT, BITS, or other leading universities.

  2. 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in credit risk analysis, data analytics, or financial risk management within fintech or banking sectors.

  3. Strong proficiency in SQL for querying large datasets and performing data validation tasks related to credit risk analysis.

  4. Hands-on experience with Python for data analysis, data manipulation, and model evaluation tasks.

  5. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities with the capability to interpret large datasets and derive actionable insights.

  6. Familiarity with credit scoring models, underwriting frameworks, and financial risk management practices.

  7. Understanding of machine learning models or alternative data sources used in modern fintech lending platforms.

  8. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams including data scientists, product managers, and policy teams.

  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced startup-like environment where adaptability and quick decision-making are essential.

  10. Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying risks and improving lending strategies.
